On August 23, 1989 Latvians, Lithuanians, and Estonians joined hands in a human chain over 600 kilometers long stretching from Tallinn Estonia, through Riga Latvia and all the way to Vilnius Lithuania and sang together demanding their freedom from the Soviet Occupation. This amazing event was the first step in all three Baltic Nations regaining their freedom.
We are kindly asking all Latvian to join us on August 23rd at 8:00pm on Monument Circle with our Lithuanian and Estonians friends to celebrate Baltic Way 30 Year Anniversary. Please come in your folk dancing costumer and/or bring your Latvian flags and celebrate this momentous event in Latvia’s history.
The Indianapolis Power and Light building will also be illuminated with the flags of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
We are also hoping for a visit from the Mayor of Indianapolis but have not yet received confirmation.
We are excited about this opportunity to celebrate together.
